Brand description

Artisan - with love for the wood.

We love wood because we have known it our entire life. From the forest we played in as children, to the calling to which we have dedicated our adulthood. Because we love wood, we want to share this love with you by producing furniture for people who share our passion for wood and top quality furniture.

Because we love wood, we collaborate with the best regional and global designers who are familiar with our technological advantages and who know how to convey the expertise into a vision that is worthy of this precious material.

Because we love wood, our main production tools are the hands of our artisans, masters who daily turn designers’ visions into unique handicraft.

The Artisan factory emerged from the traditional woodwork shop Ćostović, which conveyed all its love towards wood and 50-year experience of wood processing into it. Artisan specializes in the manual production of high quality furniture made from solid wood, and this insistence on manual, artisan work is what sets us apart. We acquired our first experiences by producing furniture for Dutch and British designers, and we started our own first collection in collaboration with the regional designers in 2007. Since then, our aim has been to reaffirm the philosophy that guides us with each collection, each piece of wood, with each designer’s vision and diligent craftsmens touch.

Wood & Washi

In 1998, Wood & Washi started as pioneer in the Netherlands with the development of window covering based on Japanese paper. Innovation combined with craftsmanship, an eye for detail and a feel for Japanese aesthetics were the fertile breeding ground for Wood & Washi to develop from a locally active threesome into a professional organisation now catering for a growing demand from the Benelux countries, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Despite the rapid growth over recent years, innovation, custom-made design and service remain the keywords for Wood & Washi.

Innovation

Wood & Washi is built on innovation. Research into existing Washi types and designing new ones in close cooperation with Japan are absolutely essential. Paper structure, ink types and watermark techniques are only a few aspects of the creation of new Washi patterns. Functionality, simplicity and the use of straightforward materials are the guiding principles in developing the systems

Custom made design

The systems, Washi types and rib layout, are mutually compatible. That enables the client to compose a unique product that meets with individual demands and variations in application.

Turnalux connects functionality and creating a warm atmosphere by use of wooden slats in  a refined and patented technique. The 40 and 78mm wooden slats are individually adjustable in 3 different positions. This makes controlling the lighting in a space, the view to the outside and your privacy manageable with a single motion. Turnalux is child-friendly and easy to assemble. It also offers the possibility to cover just the glass and leave the contours of the windows in view. Turnalux is usable in any moisture-free space.

JASNO - driven by the passion for perfection

Shutters have existed for centuries, but much to the surprise of Dutchman Jeroen Hermans, they were originally less well-known in Western Europe than in the countries of the Mediterranean, and the United States. In response, he founded the company JASNO, in 2001. In terms of look and feel, he gave the traditional shutter a more contemporary look, for example by using flush-mounted hinges. Together with a wood processing company in Poland, the production line was up and running within one year, and the first ever shutters produced under the JASNO brand were displayed at an interior design fair in Eindhoven. The response from consumers was positive.

Using the income generated from initial orders that soon followed, JASNO made the much more costly step of attending the Netherlands’ leading interior design fair, the Woonbeurs in Amsterdam. Stylists and interior and design magazines saw the value of these functional and attractive window decoration systems, and spread the news. Orders kept rolling in and growth seemed unstoppable. JASNO – which is in fact Polish for ‘light and bright’ – went on to produce the shutters in a second fully-owned factory in Poland, and opened a showroom in Hapert in Brabant.
